Cardinal/Hummingbird

I recently completed this painting of a cardinal and a hummingbird for a personal commission. I was asked to try and paint it to complement a previous painting I'd done for a National Ovarian Cancer Association art auction piece that they have a print of. I've placed the two images side by side to see the pairing.
The newest piece is only about a quarter of the size of the NOCA piece. I think they work well together.

I really enjoy painting birds as I may have mentioned before. If you are interested in commissioning me to do a painting of birds, please e-mail me for more information.

You can see the larger version of the new Cardinal/Hummingbird piece on my sketchbook page.

Gilbertology: Prints for Sale

I've been fortunate to have a few really great websites post my Gilbert Arenas illustration (see previous post) over the last couple of days.
A big thanks to Lang at Slam Magazine, Dan at D.C. Sports Bog, Wizznutzz and the good people at Gilbertology.net.

Due to the amount of inquiries I've received concerning prints of the piece, I have added signed, 11"x17" Gilbert Arenas prints to the shop for $25 USD (plus shipping).

Please don't hesitate to e-mail me with any further inquiries. Thank you!

Agent Zero & His Phenomenal Swag

Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards is quickly becoming one of my favorite players in the NBA.

He's not only enjoyable to watch, but he's even more entertaining off the court during post-game interviews or blog entries.

Here are a few of the things Gilbert has done this season:

  • Installed a hyperbaric-chamber tent in his house that maintains Colorado's altitude.

  • Shouted "Hibachi!" after field-goal attempts during games. Gilbert explains, "You know, a hibachi grill gets real hot. That's what my shot's like, so I've been calling it that: 'Welcome to the hibachi'."

  • Took a shower with 12 bottles of water when the showers weren't working after a game.
Along with Hibachi, Agent Zero is another popular nickname for Gilbert. I wanted to portray his entertaining and quirky behavior by illustrating Gilbert within the designs of a circus poster advertising, "The Electrifying! Fantastic! Amusing! Agent Zero & His Phenomenal Swag" (After hitting a long three-pointer to win a game earlier this season he stated that he did not shout "hibachi" during the shot." Instead, he told reporters, "My swag was phenomenal").
Gilbert is the ultimate performer. Check this piece out on the portfolio page to view it larger.

Moving to Brooklyn!

I'm happy to announce that Chantal and I are moving to Brooklyn in August!

I've had hopes of moving there for a while now to join some of my illustrator friends and I'm excited to begin the moving process.

I've been pretty fascinated with water towers since my first visit to New York in 2004 and I'm looking forward to them being a part of my everyday life. Ottawa doesn't have any New York style water towers and I think that's just what this city needs.

One of the first steps Chantal and I have taken in preparation for the move is to create an online store to sell some of our older work. Both Chantal and I have some of our archived work for sale, including originals and prints. Please visit the shop to see the work we have for sale!

Also, if you're interested in any of the work on my website including the work on the sketchbook page, please don't hesitate to inquire. I'm in the process of setting up an online shop directly on my website to sell both prints and originals, but until then, please feel free to drop me an e-mail.

Thanks, and come back soon to see some of my newest work!
